It is becoming more obvious as this team has started to beat each other up. That was not more apparent this week as only two teams won both of their games over the week. Neither of which is the top-ranked team in the conference.

The week began with among one of the worst teams in the conference upsetting one of the best. alongside a near upset of the century involving the worst team and best team in the conference.

Big 12 Basketball was headlined this week by a 40-point performance, zero game cancellations, and the biggest upset of the college basketball season.

Here’s a look at this week’s Power Rankings, as we head into the first week of March.

461. . 2-18 (0-15). Previous: 10th. Cyclones . 10. team

Previous Games: 72-77 loss at. Baylor, 72-76 loss vs. TCU

Next Games: vs. Texas, at. Texas Tech, at. Kansas State

In what was the most impressive 13 minute stretch of the season any team has had against Baylor,  Iowa State’s chances of an upset of the year were real early on. Memphis transfer Tyler Harris was unconscious from the field and the Cyclones started the game 7-8 from beyond the arc.

Iowa State had a 29-13 lead with just seven minutes left in the first half. However, Iowa State showed the stripes of being  2-17, from that point forward. Baylor would cut the deficit to five before halftime and the Cyclones were fighting for every inch to keep the momentum.

After keeping the lead for as long as they could, turnovers and lack of getting to the free throw line were the downfall, as Iowa State would drop the game in Waco.

The Cyclones shot just five free throws and had 17 turnovers in the contest.

Harris led the way for Iowa State with a season-high 22 points on 8-12 shooting performance. Even though he led the way scoring, the most impressive performance came from Rasir Bolton. Bolton had been the leading scorer all year, but was the whole package on Tuesday, with 21 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.

It wasn’t a one-hit-wonder for the Cyclones in terms of close games over the week. On Senior Day, Jalen Coleman-Lands had a career day, hitting eight shots and finishing with 21 points. Sophomore Tre Jackson had the best game of his career off the bench, with 14 points.

However, the Cyclones have had continued lapses in finishing close games. They drop yet another one, as they might be labeled, the unluckiest 2-18 team in all of the NCAA.
