Big 12 Basketball: Did Kansas upset over Baylor shake the power rankings?
By Andrew Tineo
Previous Games: 62-57 win vs. Oklahoma, 43-65 loss vs. West Virginia
Next Games: vs. Iowa State
For the first time in conference play, Kansas State has movement in the Big 12 Power Rankings. After a win over TCU on Saturday, the red hot Wildcats pulled the upset of the year in the Big 12 (or so we thought). Kansas State got their best performance of the year on defense, holding Oklahoma to just 20% from beyond the arc and outrebounding the Sooners.
The Wildcats had three players in double figures, led by Mike McGuirl and his 19 points. McGuirl hasn’t had the ideal senior from a team success standpoint. However, he has been among the most reliable shooting options on the team, and he was able to get his senior moment against the Sooners.
Dajuan Gordon was able to record a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Davion Bradford was two rebounds away from one, with 13 points and eight rebounds on 6-7 from the field.
After back-to-back wins, West Virginia would make sure to hold the streak at just two. The offense was deplorable and had no consistency whatsoever. They shot 29.4% from the field and finished with just nine points in the final 10 minutes of the game.
Nigel Pack did not play and Gordon finished with zero points off of his five attempts from the field. The Wildcats did a solid job on defense but was well below average on offense. Bradford led the team, with 11 points and six rebounds.
Kansas State has a chance to finish the regular season with a win, against one of their three conference wins in the Cyclones.
