Big 12 Basketball: Did Kansas upset over Baylor shake the power rankings?
By Andrew Tineo
Previous Games: 74-66 win at. TCU, 65-43 win vs. Kansas State
Next Games: vs. Baylor, vs. TCU, vs. Oklahoma State
With how much attention Derek Culver and Miles McBride get, Taz Sherman is playing like an All-Big 12 player. The lead candidate for Sixth man of the year did it again in Fort Worth. After the Mountaineers were struggling with TCU, Sherman chipped in 23 points, including making eight of his nine free throws.
Fortunately for West Virginia, Sherman was not the only thing on their side. The Mountaineers went to the free throw line 33 times. Apart from Culver, the team was solid in that area, with eight of the 14 misses coming from the potential All-Big 12 player.
Even if Culver didn’t shoot well from the free throw line, he lit up the floor in every other way. His 18 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, steal, and block were huge implications on the game.
Not often do you not play well and still win by 22. That was the case for West Virginia as they only got eight from Sherman. Even with McNeil’s 16 points, it took him 16 shots to get there.
However, they forced 18 turnovers and only gave up three three-pointers the entire game.
The Mountaineers are the only team that is able to win the Big 12 Championship. In a de facto championship game, West Virginia will get to host the Bears.
