4. Davidson Wildcats

  • 2020-21 record: 12-7 overall, 7-4 A-10
  • Previous ranking: 4th

Like most of the teams in the conference, COVID-19 pauses have not been gracious to the Wildcats.  When the last rankings were released, Davidson was in the midst of a pause – but was also enjoying a four-game win streak and sitting 6-2 in the A-10.

Their last game prior to the pause was on January 24th – and the Wildcats were not able to return to action until February 19th, when they rolled over Div. III Southern Virginia.  Within days, Davidson dropped back-to-back games for the first time since the end of November and the start of December, falling to St. Bonaventure in two-straight games.

The Wildcats rebounded in emphatic fashion to close out the regular season, however, topping VCU, 65-57.  Behind a blistering 66.7% clip inside the arc, Davidson saw Luka Brajkovic (15), Kellan Grady (13), and Hyunjung Lee (10) reach double-digits against the Nah’Shon Hyland-less Rams, delivering Davidson its best win all season.

Now, Davidson will enter the A-10 Tournament with a double-bye, firmly planted at the 3rd-seed with, arguably, the most favorable assortment of potential opponents in Fordham, George Washington, and Fordham.  If the tournament ultimately holds with all higher-seeds winning, then Davidson’s next tilt would be an immediate, entertaining rematch with VCU.
