SEC Basketball: 5 biggest storylines from 2020-21 regular season

In a year like no other before the sport, SEC Basketball as you can guess didn’t necessarily go as many had predicted before the season tipped-off.
Some teams on one hand had phenomenal seasons that surpassed expectations, and are now primed for deep runs in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. On the other hand, however, some teams have had years to forget, mostly due to high expectations going into the season that did not come to be.
Even though this season in college basketball was certainly different in many different ways, the SEC still remained the same in the ways that it always has been. Kentucky brought in a top freshman class, programs like LSU and Tennessee remained around the top of the league, and the SEC having multiple teams among the Top 25 in the country. The SEC is loaded with star players and coaches every season, and this year was no different.
There were many differences this season though however. While teams like Kentucky were loaded with talent, things didn’t necessarily go as they have in recent years, and while a few teams rose to the top of the SEC, a few others who have had success in recent years fell due to disappointing seasons. Yes, some parts of the SEC stayed the same, but there were certainly a fair amount of changes in this different 2020-2021 season.
As the 2020-2021 college basketball regular season winds down with only one game remaining for most teams, and with the SEC Tournament beginning within the next week, let’s take a look at some of the biggest surprises from a year unlike any other in the SEC.
