Georgia Tech

This has been an extremely unusual season in the ACC. It’s not just that the usual Blue Bloods aren’t performing as they usually do, but the entire conference as a whole is underperforming. Even the teams that have had solid seasons have had some serious issues at times, though one unusual suspect has really emerged these last few weeks.

For the third week in a row, Georgia Tech is a winner after a pair of solid wins. On Tuesday, they survived a tough test from Duke, knocking off the struggling Blue Devils in overtime. Moses Wright had 29 points and led the way in the win. On Saturday, the Yellow Jackets took care of Wake Forest on the road, knocking them off by double digits.

Georgia Tech has worked its way into the NCAA Tournament as a result of its current six-game winning streak. They’re now 15-8, ending the season with an 11-6 mark in ACC play. It’s taken a lot of hard work to make up for their season-opening losses to Georgia State and Mercer but they’ve certainly come together as the calendar’s hit March.

The Yellow Jackets secured the 4th seed in the ACC Tournament, which comes with a double-bye into the quarterfinals. It would certainly have surprised a lot of people before the season to hear that Georgia Tech would perform this well, but now the games mean more. The Yellow Jackets may have secured their NCAA Tournament bid, but another win or two wouldn’t hurt to secure a better seed.
