Throughout the majority of the season, the team that has dominated the headlines of AAC Basketball is Houston. The Cougars have been the main stable in the top 10 of the AP Poll, climbing to as high as No. 5 on two separate occasions.

Their win/loss to Memphis in the regular-season finale would secure the Cougars a regular-season American conference championship. However, it has not been easy as there have been two other teams to threaten for the top spot.

The Shockers have not had good luck this season with their availability to play, with only 19 regular-season games and going through the process of an interim Head Coach. However, the coach has been no slouch and led the Shockers to a 15-4 record on the season, while going 11-2 in conference play.

Other teams that have surprised this season, have been the rebound of Memphis after missing high expectations a year ago. Cincinnati has been on the rise this season and SMU although struggling mightily with getting games, has been effective when they play.

In a season that has been controlled by Wichita State and Houston, anything can happen in March and with upsets, the American could add another team in the big dance.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the key players to watch for, heading into the Tournament.
