SEC Basketball: 2021 conference tournament preview and predictions

Semifinal and Finals Predictions
#4 Tennessee Volunteers vs. #1 Alabama Crimson Tide
The Vols and Crimson Tide only faced off once during the regular season, resulting in a smaller victory for Alabama. However, this matchup did not feature a significant usage of stellar freshman Keon Johnson and Jaden Springer on the Tennessee side. Both players have a significant influence on how Tennessee has played later in the season, specifically on the defensive end.
However, Alabama was still able to land a significant number of perimeter shots over the strong Vols defense. That narrative should not change the second time around, but this game should continue to be a close battle.
Prediction: Alabama Crimson Tide
#3 LSU Tigers vs. #2 Arkansas Razorbacks
LSU has not really fared well against the top teams in conference play. Their higher pace of play does not lend to a stronger defense, but rather the Tigers have the potential to be outrun in these situations. After splitting the series with Arkansas during the regular season, LSU should feel like they have a chance in this one again.
However, Arkansas is carrying massive amounts of momentum into this matchup and is playing the best basketball in the conference. The Razorbacks can play in multiple ways and have the capability to create offensive issues for the Tigers.
Prediction: Arkansas Razorbacks
Finals
#2 Arkansas Razorbacks vs. #1 Alabama Crimson Tide:
In the matchup nearly everyone is looking forward to seeing, the top teams in the conference meet to cut down the nets. Both Arkansas and Alabama can score in droves and put on the optimal show for fans.
However, in both meetings between these teams this season neither team has managed to keep a consistent performance from one to the next. The Tide and Razorbacks have each blown the other out on their home floor, but this round can be expected to result in a closer and more prolonged battle.
The Tide’s overall record is certainly something to cheer on, but Arkansas has been getting the job done for the majority of conference play and piecing together much more resounding wins.
Prediction: Arkansas Razorbacks
