Southland Conference Bracketology

While the Southland has handed out bids to eventual Cinderella’s, only one team will have a shot at doing that in this year’s tournament. That will be who ever comes out on top on March 13th.

The truth is, the conference just wasn’t as strong as it has been in years past. Their RPI stands at a .438, good for 29th out of 32 conferences. That can be attributed to a lot of things given the current climate we’re in, but facts are facts and the Southland Conference will be joining many of the Mid-Majors who will only be giving out one bid for the big dance.

The Conference has gotten a lot of attention in years past, but that was mainly due to Stephen F. Austin for their Cinderella run in 2014 and recent upset of Duke in 2019. However, as mentioned previously they’re not even allowed to play in the postseason this year. It’s going to take another team to step up and catch the glory this season.

If one of the top three seeded teams were to win it all, the highest they could be placed in the tournament is a 15-seed. Given the current field however, it’s not seen as very likely. That means that we are most likely looking at a 16-seed going in for the eventual winner.
