Things looked dicey during Championship Week from a few days ago, which is always a great part of March Madness. In the ACC Tournament, both Duke and Virginia had to leave, due to positive tests for covid. And in the same timespan, the Kansas Jayhawks had to depart from the Big 12 Tournament after multiple positives as well.

But the good news is that we haven’t had issues since, with all 31 conference tournaments getting completed. That proved to be a huge thing when it comes to Bracketology, with Georgetown from the Big East and Oregon State from the Pac-12 each winning their respective conference tournaments, and thus stealing a bid from two programs on the bubble.

The two teams who effectively got screwed in the end were Louisville and Colorado State, the first two teams out according to the Selection Committee. Other teams who missed out on a bid included Saint Louis, Ole Miss, and Duke.

Those teams are obvious “losers” from yesterday but there were also some who got unfavorable situations despite being in the brackets. A great example is Ohio State and Iowa being stuck in the same regions as Gonzaga and Baylor, despite being the clear top No. 2 seeds on the line. Loyola-Chicago got an 8 seed despite the metrics being much more in their favor, with a likely potential Round of 32 matchup against Illinois.

But there were some teams that had a great night on Sunday. Here’s a closer look at five programs that couldn’t have asked for a better landing spot in their respective selection and location in the bracket.
