Get Geo Baker going

Geo Baker’s senior season hasn’t been all it was going to be cracked up to be. He appeared to regress statistically as he gave way for the emergence of Ron Harper Jr.

While Baker isn’t the best player on the Scarlet Knights anymore, he does remain arguably the most important. When he has a great game, the Scarlet Knights tend to follow suit.

Just look at when Baker scores the rock. He’s managed to score at least 16 points four times this season. Rutgers’ records in those games: 4-0.

The inverse is not necessarily true – Baker scored a single point in the team’s first game of the season and still won. But it’s clear that the more he can be involved in the offense, the better the team’s chance of success.

Baker hasn’t been in peak form for several games now, averaging less than nine points per game over the last four contests. That includes a low of four points in the blowout loss to Nebraska and a high of 12 points in the overtime win over Minnesota, when he played 43 minutes.

It has been Baker’s mission to end the decades-long drought for Rutgers in the NCAA Tournament. He’s been successful in doing so while shining a light on the NCAA’s problems on social media in the lead-up to Friday’s game.

This is Geo Baker’s chance to etch his name into Rutgers lore forever. Odds are, he’s not going to squander it, so long as he can get going.
