Most of Marquette’s recent hires can be classified as coaches on the rise. Wojciechowski was a promising assistant at Duke while Crean himself was just an assistant at Michigan State when tabbed for the Marquette job. Given Wojciechowski’s failings, it’s possible that Marquette goes in a different direction; opting instead for a coach with a ton of experience. Look no further than Beilein.

Beilein has been a head coach at a number of institutions but is most notable for his 12 years as head coach at Michigan. He also spent five very solid years at West Virginia when they were still in the Big East, leading the Mountaineers to an Elite Eight, a Sweet Sixteen, and an NIT title. His recent stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers was very brief and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him get back into the college coaching scene.

There’s no guarantee that Beilein would want to return to coaching if the perfect job wasn’t open; is Marquette the perfect job? He seems like a more likely candidate for a Big Ten opening, but perhaps a reunion with the Big East is a great match. Either way, Beilein brought success nearly everywhere he coached and would be a fantastic addition not only to this Marquette program but to the Big East as a whole.
