Myles Johnson a major key in order for Rutgers Basketball to upset Houston
Don’t let Quentin Grimes cook
Houston’s best offensive weapon is Quentin Grimes, who is great finisher. He’s good at shooting threes, too. Slowing him down will take the edge off of Houston’s offense.
Grimes is averaging 18.0 points per game, easily a career-high. That’s 4.3 points per game more than second-leading scorer Marcus Sasser.
Grimes isn’t much of a distributor, averaging just 2.0 assists per game. Therefore, the Scarlet Knights should try to force him into pressure situations like traps, where he may not be able to get rid of the ball and may instead throw up a shot.
The guard is lethal behind the three-point arc, where he hits 41.1 percent of his attempts. He attempted eight three-pointers against Cleveland State and hit four of them, the third straight game he hit at least 50 percent of his threes.
Grimes is also a strong rebounder at 5.9 boards per game. He has no issue grabbing the board at one end, then pushing the pace to the other end of the court before the transition defense can slow the attack down.
Just as getting Harper going important, stopping Grimes is just as important. Sunday’s games may very well come down to the performances of the team’s best players.
