Hunter Dickinson and Michigan Basketball faces Florida State’s depth and size
By Adam Childs
3. Stay out of foul trouble
Michigan did a great job of not committing a lot of fouls in the regular season, but the whistles have seemed to come pretty quick during the tournament. Dickinson fouled out of the first game and Brown had three fouls in the first half against LSU.
It is vital for the Wolverines to avoid this against Florida State. The depth of Michigan has been tested without Livers and they can’t afford to lose anybody because of being in foul trouble.
Brown is one of the Wolverine’s best defenders and when he is hitting like he was against LSU, he needs to be on the court. Unfortunately, he has the tendency to pick up two stupid fouls during the game and he needs to try and avoid that.
He plays high-pressure defense and that can lead to fouls, but he needs to stay away from the boneheaded plays. If Brown can stay away from those types of plays and stay on the court the Wolverines are in great shape.
Florida State will no doubt attack Dickinson down low and he needs to avoid those ticky-tack fouls also. He committed a foul at half-court against LSU that was just plain dumb. Michigan can’t afford to lose him for any reason and foul trouble is the quickest way to do that.
Who knows how close the game will be called on Sunday, but the Wolverines need to adjust to it and stay out of foul trouble. If they can keep Brown, Dickinson, and others from committing fouls they will be able to keep them on the court and run their offense as they should Michigan should be able to come away with a victory.
