How Will Arizona Guard Huskies Offense?

It’s hard not to point out the stellar play of Paige Bueckers this season and how it’s translated to huge success for the UConn program. She is the unequivocal best freshman to walk through the program since Breanna Stewart in the 2012-13 season and the stats will back that up. The list of players she can be compared to in this time include current NBA stars Katie Lou Samuelson and Napheesa Collier among others.

The issue with solely focusing on Bueckers from a defensive perspective is that Connecticut’s lineup is extremely talented from top to bottom. Additionally, the Huskies lead the nation in assists per game and are extremely successful in sharing the ball with each other. The difficulty lies more with having to play these stars 1v1 rather than helping each other to force the ball out of a star’s hands.

Arizona has a big decision on their hands and fortunately are a top-10 defensive team in the nation. The Wildcats feature six players in their rotation averaging at least 1.0 steal per game and increasing defensive pressure will be crucial towards disrupting the Huskies’ flow offensively.
