Roy Williams was a head coach for 33 years, and as previously mentioned had an interesting coaching tree. There were four future collegiate head coaches on his first staff at Kansas back in 1988, and one of those coaches is already a solid candidate to succeed him with the Tar Heels.

Turgeon is a Kansas native who played under Larry Brown for the Jayhawks before joining Williams’ bench in the late 80’s and early 90’s. He’s a longtime college head coach with experience at Jacksonville State, Wichita State, and Texas A&M before spending the last decade with Maryland. He also briefly spent time coaching with the Philadelphia 76ers. He’s had great success in the Big 12 and Big Ten in his two most recent stops.

Turgeon has done solid work to build success at Maryland, but would he be the right choice to make the jump to North Carolina? Though he did work briefly with Roy three decades ago, he doesn’t have direct experience with the Tar Heels, outside from some matchups before the Terrapins left the ACC. He’s an experienced head coach who still has plenty of years left in him, but is he the answer for the Tar Heels?
