It’s hard to find the perfect candidate to replace a legend like Roy Williams, but we can get pretty close in our search. It’s already pretty limiting if you narrow down potential candidates to those in the Carolina family, but even then there’s still a name that should rise towards the top, someone with a decade of success already as a head coach.

Miller played at North Carolina and won that 2005 national title while on the roster for the Tar Heels. He became a collegiate assistant once his playing career end and was quickly thrust into a head coaching job a UNC Greensboro back in 2011, becoming one of the nation’s youngest coaches. The last few seasons have been extremely successful for the Spartans, including another NCAA Tournament appearance this season. Miller is averaging 25 wins a season since 2016; pretty impressive work at a school in the Southern Conference.

After the success he’s built with the Spartans, it’s only a matter of time before Miller takes a higher profile job. It’s easy to wonder if he has the experience or ability to coach and recruit in the ACC, but what better job exists for Miller than at the school where he won a national title? The step up would be giant, but Miller has at least shown that he is a fantastic coach and recruiter in these last few seasons.
