The Bears are more than ready to compete with Gonzaga for 40 minutes
The first half Baylor team, played like the most complete team in the entire country, on both ends of the floor. The much anticipated Baylor vs. Gonzaga matchup is awaited by the second half of the doubleheader on Saturday.
If the Bears do match up with the Bulldogs, Baylor has all the tools to become the Zags’ lone-blemish on the season.
Baylor played two different styles of the half, with flashy offense and suffocating defense. In the second half, the Bears played a different style, looking into the paint and focused on making the next pass. Baylor had 23 assists on 29 made field goals, with three players having four or more.
The bench production has been big for Baylor, and had its biggest input on the season, with 32. Mayer was able to make the tough plays and made contested shots. Flagler had among his best defensive performances of the season and added three rebounds.
Tchamwa Tchatchoua was the best frontcourt player on the day, adding his double figures, with six rebounds.
With the COVID drought, it was clear that skepticism was on the Bears, from the media. However, Baylor is in full shape, and is quite possibly, playing better than they were, prior to the three-week pause.
It will be the Bears’ second National Championship game appearance, with the first one coming in 1948. Baylor will play the winner of UCLA and Gonzaga on Monday.
