Gonzaga takes on UCLA for a spot in the 2021 national title game
We have made it to the Final Four, the 1 seed Gonzaga Bulldogs will take on the 11 seed UCLA Bruins. It’s been an incredible season for Gonzaga with every win in double-digits besides one. The Bulldogs are the No. 1 team in the country and according to Kenpom have the No. 1 ranked offense and No. 5 ranked defense. But what sets this team apart is the pace they play and how well the team passes and cuts.
Gonzaga made it to the final four after defeating USC 85-66. Gonzaga took advantage of some early USC turnovers early while Drew Timme and Jalen Suggs each had a great game. Timme went right at Evan Mobley in the post and came away with 23 points in the game. Suggs had his best game of the tournament with 18 points 10 rebounds and eight assists while going 7-11 from the floor.
But maybe the Best part of Gonzaga this game was their defense. The Zags held USC to 4-15 from the three-point line and threw the first 30 minutes of the game USC only had 45 points.
Gonzaga takes on a UCLA team that beat Michigan 51-49. Johnny Juzang was incredible scoring 28 points on 11-19 from the field and 2-5 from three. UCLA has had an interesting season, their best player Chris Smith tore his ACL in December, and center Jalen Hill left the team for personal reasons in February.
Jamie Jaquez has had a good tournament as well. He can create his own shot and is scoring 12.1 points per game on the season. Jules Bernard has shown the ability to score at times shooting 39.4 percent from three. Cody Riley is a tough physical big that uses his strength to his advantage while according to Hoop-Math shoots 48.2 percent on two-point jump shots. While Tyger Campbell who along with Juzang and Jaquez was 2nd team Pac-12 does an excellent job distributing and managing the game.
UCLA has had a great run and will for sure need to slow the game down against the Zags. I think Gonzaga has enough to reach their 2nd National Championship game.
Prediction: Gonzaga 85, UCLA 71
