How Noah Gurley fits with the Marquette Golden Eagles

We have a new head coach at Marquette in Shaka Smart, replacing Steve Wojciechowski. There can be a point made about Coach Smart’s teams at Texas underachieving in the win-loss column but he can develop frontcourt players, including a pair of likely future 1st-rounders in Kai Jones and Greg Brown. Gurley fits his style of play and with both Theo John and Jamal Cain leaving, opens a need for an experienced frontcourt player to join the roster.

The question will be whether or not Gurley would be a definite starter. Assuming he returns, leading scorer and rebounder Dawson Garcia will be the starting center and unquestioned star frontcourt player. There are two other former top-100 prospects and sophomores in Justin Lewis and Oso Ighodaro, who could very well breakout under a new head coach. Gurley could end up like Jose Perez, another former mid-major star who went to Marquette and barely got rotational minutes.

How Noah Gurley fits with the Miami Hurricanes

There has been a lot of roster turnover for Miami, losing Chris Lykes, Nysier Brooks, Elijah Olaniyi, and Earl Timberlake Jr. The team has been looking throughout the portal so far to add talent to join Isaiah Wong, trying to add both depth and ACC starting-caliber talent.

The Hurricanes do have some frontcourt depth, with 6’10 forward Sam Waardenburg set to return after missing this past season with an injury. They also have rising junior Anthony Walker, a 6’9 forward that averaged 9.6 ppg and 4.7 rpg. I don’t think Gurley would overtake Walker and Waardenburg in the starting lineup but certainly would get 20+ mpg off the bench with this option.
