Alabama Basketball lands top 30 prospect Charles Bediako
By Matt Melton
After a disappointing loss to the 2021 NCAA Tournament “Cinderella” UCLA in the Sweet 16, Alabama Basketball is off to a phenomenal start to the offseason.
Yes, the Crimson Tide will lose multiple players such as SEC Player and Defensive Player of the Year Herbert Jones, John Petty, Alex Reese, and Jordan Bruner, but Alabama Basketball’s roster is starting to take shape for the 2021-2022 season.
The Crimson Tide were already set to have a roster next season loaded with talent headlined by their returning top-two leading scorers Jaden Shackelford and Jahvon Quinerly. Returning notable players such as Joshua Primo, Keon Ellis, and Juwan Gary as well, Alabama also adds a top recruiting class to that roster mix.
That recruiting class was ranked among the Top 20 in the country, and included the #1 point guard and Top 10 national player JD Davison along with 4-star forwards Jusaun Holt and Langston Wilson. Obviously there was potential for even more, and that potential became reality early on Tuesday.
Alabama secured a commitment from 4-star and Top 30 overall player Charles Bediako on Tuesday afternoon giving the Crimson Tide the #3 recruiting class in the country. At 6’11, Bediako can play both power forward and center, and has the abilities to help in the paint in areas that the Tide struggled this past season.
Bediako is described as a prospect with upside. While an excellent rebounder and around-the-rim defender, Bediako has the size and skill needed to finish around the rim with ease. This alone will be big for this Alabama team next season.
With the Crimson Tide losing three important members of their front-court, Bediako and others will be key next season. Replacing the defense of Jones and Bruner around the rim will not be easy, but Bediako will provide much-needed defense and rebounding while also adding a dominant post presence.
Alabama emerged as one of the top teams in the country this past season, and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Combined with the returning roster, incoming freshman, and now with the addition of Bediako, you can surely make the argument that the Crimson Tide will be one of the most talented and deep teams in the country.
Alabama is currently one of the finalists for Texas Tech transfer guard Nimari Burnett, who is also announcing his transfer decision on Thursday. Could the Crimson Tide land the former 5-star as well?
