NCAA Basketball: Breaking down the 5 finalists for transfer Jayden Gardner
By Matt Melton
LSU Tigers
A team that the roster for the 2021-2022 season could either be among the most talented teams in the SEC or the most unknown, the LSU Tigers could use a player like Gardner badly.
LSU will most likely lose at least two of their “Big 4” of Cameron Thomas, Trendon Watford, Ja’Vonte Smart, and Darius Days. While all four averaged in double-figures, the next highest scoring average on the Tigers was sophomore guard Aundre Hyatt at 4.2 PPG. Aside from those five, however, there isn’t much guaranteed returning experience for LSU next season.
The Tigers could use a player like Gardner next season for multiple reasons. Not only could they use the scoring and overall production, but also the experience and leadership for what may be a fairly young LSU roster next season. If you’re wondering what role Gardner would play for the Tigers, look at current LSU forward Darius Days.
LSU will certainly be “in-the-mix” for multiple transfers this offseason, but if they land them may depend on the decisions of their current “Big 4.” If the Tigers do land Gardner however, it will give LSU a proven scorer and rebounder that could potentially be the focal point of this Tigers team next season.
