NCAA Basketball: Way-too-early top-25 power rankings for 2021-22 season
A year ago, the Seminoles lost their top three contributors to the NBA Draft or graduation. We’re likely to see that again, with leading scorer and rebounder Raiquan Gray already off to the draft, while guard MJ Walker is set to move on. And Scottie Barnes is a projected first-round pick himself so the odds are good that he’s gone too.
Yet once again, Florida State has plenty returning to keep them among the top contenders in the ACC. 7’1 center Balsa Koprivica improved a lot compared to year one, while several rising seniors (Malik Osbourne, Anthony Polite, Wyatt Wilkes, and Sardaar Calhoun) are back to provide plenty of depth.
But the biggest name on the roster will be Caleb Mills, a former Preseason Player of the Year at Houston who transferred to Florida State midway through this past season. He’ll be tasked with being the lead guard and provide both passing and scoring to replace what Walker and Barnes did.
There’s also a top-3 recruiting class for the Seminoles, led by five-star guard Jalen Warley and top-40 playmaker Matthew Cleveland. John Butler is a top-60 forward prospect, while Naheem McLeod is one of the best JUCO big men in the 2021 recruiting class.
As long as Mills makes the transition just fine and the freshmen can contribute, the Seminoles depth and talent will overwhelm plenty of opponents next season.
