Alabama Basketball lands transfer guard and former five-star recruit Nimari Burnett
By Matt Melton
After a disappointing end to a phenomenal season in which Alabama Basketball went 26-7 and made the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2004, the Crimson Tide you could argue are already the potential winners of the offseason.
After Alabama Basketball landed Top 30 overall recruit Charles Bediako earlier this week, Nate Oats and Co. have added yet another highly-touted player to their 2021-22 roster, this time through the transfer portal.
The Crimson Tide have landed a commitment from Texas Tech transfer Nimari Burnett. Burnett, a former 5-star guard, originally committed to Texas Tech back in November of 2019, but only appeared in 12 games for the Red Raiders averaging 5.3 PPG on 17.7 minutes per game.
The addition of Burnett only adds to what was already a loaded backcourt, arguably the best in the country. Burnett will join returning guards in Jahvon Quinerly, Jaden Shackelford, Joshua Primo, and Keon Ellis with also adding incoming 5-star point guard and Top 10 national player JD Davison.
Not only does Burnett bring yet another impact player to this loaded group, but is a very versatile player offensively and defensively as well. Burnett has the ability to not only create open shots for himself, but for others as well as he is a strong passer capable of finding open shooters on the outside.
Don’t look much into his offensive numbers at Texas Tech, Burnett is a player capable of scoring from all levels of the court with an ability to get to the basket. Add in a lengthy and versatile defender that can guard multiple positions, and it’s clear why he was one of the top and most sought after transfers of the offseason.
Alabama may not be done either as one of the Crimson Tide’s top transfer targets Noah Gurley is set to announce his decision on Sunday. Whether or not they land him, there is no denying that Alabama is building one of the deepest rosters in the country ready to make a run at a national championship next season.
