12 NCAA Basketball programs that should target Siena transfer Jalen Pickett
Michigan Wolverines
With a No. 1 incoming recruiting class and a great collective frontcourt, Michigan Basketball has almost everything they need to win a national title in 2022. The only weakness is the lack of a proven ball-handler at the point guard position. Mike Smith has gone pro while Eli Brooks could go either way.
Unless Michigan is ready to give the keys to top-40 freshman guard Frankie Collins, look for the Wolverines to pry into the portal for a veteran point guard. Pickett’s passing skills would be a great benefit for the frontcourt and he wouldn’t have to do much scoring at all. And he could very well be playing for a national title contender as well.
Minnesota Golden Gophers
After a coaching change and a roster exodus, Minnesota currently has no point guards on the roster. Both Marcus Carr and Jamal Mashburn are gone but new head coach Ben Johnson has already brought in three transfers, including guards E.J. Stephens and Luke Loewe.
Both of them are off-ball guards so the pursuit is on for another lead guard. Pickett would average 35 mpg here as well and can put up similar numbers that he did at Siena. But unless even more talent joins after him, Minnesota would still be projected to finish in the bottom four of the Big Ten and likely miss out on the Big Dance. But the playing time opportunities would certainly be there.
