Analyzing reported finalists for five-star NCAA Basketball prospect Efton Reid
NC State Wolfpack
The fate of senior big man Derek Funderburk has yet to be officially decided but odds are good that he’ll be moving on. That leaves a hole in the frontcourt offensively for the Wolfpack, as starting center Manny Bates is more of a rebounder/defender, while four-star incoming freshman forward Ernest Ross is unproven.
If leading scorer Devon Daniels is also gone, that could allow Reid to come in and be a focal point in the Wolfpack offense. However, he’d have to play more at the power forward position than he may want to since Bates is the clear go-to guy at center.
Ohio State Buckeyes
If starting center Kyle Young is gone, the Buckeyes will need a new big man down low. Assuming that Chet Holmgren isn’t going to Ohio State, Reid would be the next best available option for the program. The team could use some size down low and if EJ Liddell and Duane Washington Jr. both return, Reid’s arrival could make Ohio State the No. 1 preseason team for 2021-22.
The possibility to win a national championship will be there but Reid would have to sacrifice potential statistics, as he’d be the 3rd or even 4th option on offense. On the other hand, playing for a team that makes a deep run in the NCAA Tournament can also be beneficial for one’s NBA Draft stock.
