MAC Player of the Year Marreon Jackson transfers to Arizona State Basketball
Arizona State Basketball head coach Bobby Hurley plucks another from the transfer portal. Marreon Jackson announced today via his Twitter account that he would be using his extra year of eligibility and committing to the Sun Devils.
"Forks Up ! Time to tap into a whole other level.. #OwnZone@Marreon_Jackson"
Jackson was one of the most touted names in the transfer portal which now features over 1,200 players. He chose the Sun Devils over competitors Miami, Georgetown, and Arkansas. Jackson was just a two-star recruit coming out of Garfield Heights in Cleveland, Ohio and now finds himself in a Power 6 conference.
The 6-foot-1 guard averaged 18.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.9 assists last season for a team that was the regular-season MAC Champions. He also had seven double-doubles along with two triple-doubles, most notably 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists against Ball State. Jackson’s impressive numbers help earn him MAC Conference Play of The Year honors.
The Sun Devils are more than likely are going to lose Remy Martin and Alonzo Verge this offseason along with four other scholarship players to the transfer portal. Luckily coach Hurley has already added former Michigan State center commit Enoch Boakye and Robert Morris swingman Aj Bramah for next season. Bramah scored over 21 points while only playing in 12 games.
Jackson will be the expected starting point guard for the upcoming season. With Ohio State transfer Luther Muhammad back from an injury and potentially returning Marcus Bagley, Arizona State Basketball could go from the bottom of the Pac-12 to being back in the NCAA Tournament picture.
Time will tell what kind of role Jackson will have for the Devils next season. Taking a step up in competition, I wouldn’t expect Jackson to be the go-to guy every single night but Jackson will be expected to replace some of the scoring Martin is leaving behind.
