SEC Basketball: Way-too-early power rankings for 2021-22 season
By Matt Melton
While one can argue that SEC Basketball had a down year compared to previous in 2020-21, the 2021-22 season is shaping up to be the exact opposite.
The 2020-2021 SEC Basketball season was full of surprises. Alabama rose to the heights of the SEC in only year two under head coach Nate Oats, Arkansas used a complete roster turnover to rise to the top ranks of the conference, and Kentucky had its worst season in almost a century. Yes, the Wildcats brought in the #1 recruiting class in the country and finished 9-16, still not sure how that happened.
While many things were different in the SEC this past season, a few things remained the same. The top of the standings was once again crowded, while a few teams struggled again in conference play. The conference was also once again well-represented in March Madness with six teams dancing into March, some deeper than others.
The SEC once again saw their fair share of star power as many of the country’s top players played in the conference including Cameron Thomas, Herbert Jones, Moses Moody, Sharife Cooper, and more. If you think that the 2021-22 season won’t be the same with the conference bringing in countless top recruits and transfers, you’re wrong.
The SEC Basketball season in 2021-22 is setting up to be even better than this past season with numerous new highly-touted players, transfers, teams “bouncing back,” and more. Let’s look at the “way-too-early” power rankings for SEC Basketball for the 2021-22 season.
