NCAA Basketball: 8 teams that should target Texas Tech transfer Mac McClung
Memphis Tigers
Memphis made his list of seven schools last year and Boogie Ellis and Damion Baugh are both leaving, meaning the Tigers are in need of backcourt help. Memphis brings in four freshmen but none can really step into a primary ball-handling role and none will likely shoulder the scoring load that McClung can.
Penny is notorious for being aggressive in the transfer portal and it’s likely he’ll make another run at Mac McClung. Penny has already added Miami forward Earl Timberlake into the mix for next season as he tries to build on the NIT Championship the Tigers won this spring.
Illinois Illini
A potential Ayo replacement? Would certainly make for an interesting addition as the Illini look to rebound after a disappointing NCAA Tournament. Replacing a 20 point per game scorer is difficult but someone like Mac could really make a difference on both sides of the ball.
With Adam Miller also in the portal and Trent Frazier in the draft, Underwood will likely be looking to the portal for someone to come in right away and play big minutes. Underwood has already secured Omar Payne from Florida who will be a great addition in a frontcourt that could be losing Kofi Cockburn to the draft. Expect the Illini to stay be busy this spring.
