With an extra year of eligibility available to all NCAA Basketball players, hundreds have made the decision to stick around for the 2021-22 season. A number of them are former Junior College players, who’ll get the opportunity to play three years of D-I hoops instead of the usual two. That’s the case for Alfonso Plummer, a former star at Arizona Western College before transferring to the Utah Utes.

The 6’1 guard come to Utah with a scoring reputation and he proved that towards the end of the 2019-20 season once Plummer was inserted into the starting lineup. He went for 16+ points in each game he played more than 10 minutes, including a career-high 35 points while making a school-record 11 three-pointers in the season-finale against Oregon State.

Plummer took that momentum into this past season, starting 16 of the team’s 25 total games. The senior guard was second on the team with 13.6 ppg, shooting 44% from the field and 38% from three-point range. He was in double figures in 17 games, including scoring at least 20 points four different times. Plummer can be streaky at times and the ball will stop with him, having just 25 total assists last season.

Still, Plummer is a proven power conference scorer and when he’s hot, can shoot a team to victory on any night. Due to a coaching change, the guard entered the NCAA Basketball portal and received a ton of interest.

Between Plummer indicating that a decision will be made this upcoming weekend and a reported list of six finalists, things are heating up in this recruitment process. Here’s a closer look at how Plummer would fit with each potential option.
