The NCAA Basketball Transfer Portal continues to be a place where top names continuously pop-up and become available as some of the top transfers of the offseason. Another big name popped up in recent weeks as senior Duke guard Jordan Goldwire has announced his intentions to use his extra year of eligibility and enter the transfer portal.

Goldwire, a senior, has been with the Blue Devils since the 2017-18 season but has only started in 27 games for Duke, all coming in the previous two seasons. Goldwire came to Duke as only a 3-star prospect in the Class of 2017 and has been a reliable option off the bench for Coach K and the Blue Devils since.

Goldwire never quite saw significant playing time until his junior season where he averaged 5.3 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 3.1 APG, and 1.8 SPG over the previous two seasons. As you can see, Goldwire isn’t necessarily the most dominant offensive player, but he makes the most impact on the defensive end.

Goldwire is an excellent on and off-ball defender, as evident alone by his 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. Goldwire is coming off an excellent defensive season in which he was named ACC-All-Defense First-Team where he ranked in the Top 5 in the ACC in steals, steals per game, steal percentage, and defensive box plus/minus.

Goldwire despite the eye-popping stats is one of the more “household” names of the transfer portal this offseason and could be a candidate to have a big breakout campaign next season depending on where he chooses to take his talents.

Here are the six finalists for the senior transfer guard, as well as a breakdown of the roster next season and a potential fit with each.
