Big Ten Basketball: Way-too-early power rankings for 2021-22 season
By Adam Childs
Michigan State was shockingly not good last year. Their guard play was mostly below average and Rocket Watts left after the year. That doesn’t seem like a huge loss, but he showed at times, especially against Michigan in their second game, that he had the ability to be a star. His loss could be bigger than most might think, but it is still hard to tell.
Some think that Tom Izzo may have lost his magic, but are you ready to bet against him next year? We certainly aren’t. Even with the videos and tantrums that he seems to throw at times, he is still an unbelievable coach and you have to believe they will have a bounce-back year in 2021.
Foster Loyer is the lastest to leave the program, but Izzo did bring in point guard Tyson Walker from Northeastern. He will join a strong core and a very good recruiting class coming in.
Emoni Bates is the prize and may come this year and that could change everything for the Spartans. We aren’t ready to put them back on top, but we aren’t ready to drop them yet. There are too many question marks behind them to put them any lower than four.
