Juwan Howard is exceeding all expectations at the helm of his alma mater Michigan. After losing multiple veteran pieces in the offseason, expectations were a bit tempered for the Wolverines heading into the 2020 year. However, Howard led his team to an even better record than in his first season with the blue and maize. In fact, the Wolverines were a single bucket away from reaching the Final Four this season.

Howard’s ability to coach, develop and lead on the floor has been incredible to witness. He draws players of all positions into the program and is really building something special. How high he can take this team is anybody’s guess, but the realm of responses is likely to be very positive.

Freshman 5-star center Hunter Dickinson was voted to the 2nd All-American team, after a tremendous season in Ann Arbor and is currently set to return for another year with the Wolverines. Additionally, the team has signed 5-star forward Moussa Diabate to anchor the frontcourt.

If Duren decided to join Michigan, he would be the 4th top-40 big man (including Isaiah Todd) to have committed to the program in the last 3 seasons. Howard’s effect and influence on frontcourt talent are hugely impactful and for all of the conjecture that Duren immediately goes pro would justifiably be worth spurning to develop under the NBA legend.

While there are many factors to consider in his decision, the Wolverines are a year-in-and-year-out program capable of contending with the best in the nation and have no issues spreading the ball around despite the large influx of talent. There are worse options on Duren’s list than Michigan.
