There have been a few “Player of the Year” stars from the respective conferences from this past season that have entered the NCAA Basketball transfer portal. Arguably the best among them is DeVante Jones, a three-year starter from Coastal Carolina, who is coming off a spectacular season that ended with winning Sun Belt Player of the Year.

Jones was an effective college player out the gate for the Chanticleers, averaging 14.0 ppg as a freshman starter. The numbers jumped to 17.3 ppg and 5.7 apg as a sophomore, along with 5.8 rpg.

The 6’1 stat-stuffing guard became an even better individual scorer this past season, going for a team-high 19.3 ppg and 7.2 rpg. His passing took a dip but Joes still averaged 2.9 apg. He reached double figures in all but one regular-season game and had back-to-back 30-point performances during the non-conference.

Jones shot 49% from the field, 86% from the free throw line, and is coming off a career-high 37% shooting from three-point range. He’s a point guard that can play off the ball too and is a proven scorer whose talents should be able to translate to the power conference level.

And once Jones entered the transfer portal, those were the teams that were after him. There were a number of big-name programs that were looking to add the transfer, who’ll be able to play immediately thanks to the new one-time waiver rules from the NCAA.

The recruitment of Jones has heated up, with a reported final four of Texas, Michigan, Texas Tech, and Memphis in the running. With a decision coming this weekend, here’s a look at how the Sun Belt Player of the Year would potentially fit with each of them.
