The first two years of the Fred Hoiberg era in Lincoln have gone about as bad as possible for Nebraska Basketball.  The Huskers have just completed two of their worst seasons in school history, but not to fear because things are looking up and they are looking up in a big way at Nebraska.  This could finally be the year that the coaching staff puts it all together.

When this coaching staff was hired, we all expected the instant gratification that his coaching staff experienced at Iowa State but after the first two seasons it has not played out that way.  The first two seasons should also be taken with a grain of salt.  Year one Hoiberg had to rebuild the entire roster as Nebraska was gutted from graduations and early entrants into the NBA draft.  Hoiberg built a roster within two weeks and his first team never had any chemistry.

Team number 2 had some chemistry and they looked much better to start the season and appeared they were going to be competitive in the league and win around 5-6 games.  The team still had talent but the 30-day COVID pause really derailed whatever hopes this team had of being competitive and climbing out of the Big Ten basement.  After the first two seasons, no one expected Hoiberg to have 5 total league wins.

Heading into season three, the only way to go is up for Hoiberg, and given what Nebraska has returning and the recruiting class they have coming in, the Huskers are trending up.  This year’s team can be remembered forever in the annals of the Husker Basketball record books especially if the team finally gets to the NCAA tournament and wins a game.
