While the NCAA Basketball transfer portal has slowed down in the past month, we still have seen some more players leave their respective teams. As we enter the month of May, the overall number has climbed to over 1,500, including a few Conference Player of the Years, former top-100 freshmen, and mid-major stars.

Several hundred have already found new homes, including most recently, Rasir Bolton (Iowa State to Gonzaga), Adam Miller (Illinois to LSU), and De’Vion Harmon (Oklahoma to Oregon). We still have major pieces still without a team, including Marcus Carr, Tre Mitchell, and Bryce Hamilton.

I’ve been doing my best to follow everything that has gone on in the transfer portal, doing a couple of “best available” pieces in spans of a few weeks. It’s been nearly a month since my last update and a couple hundred have been in the portal, with a number still available. Here are my top 20 free agent transfers since April 12th.

Honorable mentions

G Jermaine Jackson Jr. – Long Island University

2020-21 stats: 15.0 ppg and 3.5 apg

The third-leading scorer for the Sharks this past season, Jackson was the team’s three-point threat, making 34% on over seven attempts a game. He had five games of at least 20 points of the 15 total appearances and was a capable ball-handler as well.

F Chad Baker – Duquense

2020-21 stats: 9.5 ppg and 2.9 rpg

Duquesne’s season was limited to just 15 games but the freshman Baker had an impressive season when given minutes. The 6’7 stretch forward had a couple of 20+ point outings for the Dukes, including a season-high 23 against Fordham, with 21 of them coming from three-point range. With four years left of eligibility, Baker would be a nice get for another mid-major program.

F KC Ndefo – St. Peters

2020-21 stats: 13.7 ppg and 6.5 rpg

The leading scorer for the team this past season, Ndefo is better known for his defense, awarded two times the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. At 6’7 and 200 pounds, the rising senior may not be a great frontcourt option at the power conference level but would be a nice piece to have on defense at the Atlantic 10 level.

F Brandon Johnson – Minnesota

2020-21 stats: 8.9 ppg and 6.3 rpg

Inconsistency on offense was a major problem for Johnson with the Gophers. He made eight three-pointers in one game in the comeback win over Iowa but had just six total in the other 27 games. He was a decent rebounder and defender at times but with a complete roster turnover at Minnesota, it’ll be interesting to see if he stays at the power conference level or move down to a contending mid-major.
