Analyzing the 4 finalists for Syracuse transfer forward Quincy Guerrier
Arizona State Sun Devils
The Sun Devils are in need of a proven forward at the power conference level after losing Marcus Bagley this offseason. They did land Robert Morris transfer A.J. Bramah, who is coming off a season of averaging around 20 ppg and 10 rebounds. But as we know with mid-major transfers moving up a level, it’s 50/50 as to whether the production will withstand.
Guerrier is a safer option and would likely start at the power forward position. Arizona State had next to no production in the frontcourt last season and while they did bring in Bramah and former Michigan State center commit Enoch Boayke, they could still add some proven depth.
Illinois Fighting Illini
The Illini was in the running to land Guerrier when he was a high school prospect and they’re hoping to get revenge on Syracuse, especially after they landed transfer wing Alan Griffin last offseason. Illinois has been undergoing a complete roster rebuild, losing stars Ayo Dosunmu and Kofi Cockburn, along with freshman guard Adam Miller transferring out and forward Giorgi Bezhanishvili going pro.
The projected starting guards for the team are Andre Curbelo, Trent Frazier, and Utah transfer Alfonso Plummer. Florida transfer Omar Payne will be the starting center, which leaves the power forward spot for Guerrier. He’d be a great fit for the team’s offense and would certainly be the top frontcourt option but there may be a concern that the Illini backcourt takes the majority of the shots, something that happened at Syracuse this past season.
