3. Jason ‘Jay’ Williams

Jay Williams became one of the few freshmen in program history to average double-figures. This led to him being named ACC Rookie of the Year.

He was also a  member of the 2001 NCAA National Championship team. His 21.6 points per game led the Duke Blue Devils and the rest of the ACC. Williams and Shane Battier were one of two Duke duos to each score over 700 points that season.

In 2002, Williams was considered the best player in college basketball. He earned the Naismith Award and Wooden Award and was named to the Consensus first All-American for the second straight year. Williams, Carlos Boozer, and Mike Dunleavy Jr. each had 600 points in the single-season.

Williams’ jersey number (22) was retired by Duke at Senior Day.

Williams was selected second overall by the Chicago Bulls in the 2002 NBA Draft.
