Rising senior Dug McDaniel, one of the top-rated point guards in the nation, has recently disclosed a couple of upcoming visits.

Dug McDaniel is one of the hottest names currently on the recruiting circuit. McDaniel, a consensus top-80 player in 2022, recently told Stockrisers that he would take an unofficial to Penn State on June 12 and then to Michigan on June 16.

McDaniel, who recently named the prospect with the best court vision in the CP3 Memorial Day Classic, held in Winston-Salem by Rivals analyst Jaime Shaw, showed tremendous improvement is several areas during his high school campaign. The 5-10, 160-pound bouncy point guard is extremely quick and does an outstanding job changing speed.

Over the past year, he has become more aggressive attacking the basket and enhanced his finishes, as well as become an improved shooter.  In addition, McDaniel is an outstanding distributor along with a major disruptor on the defensive end.

The Fairfax (Va.) native scored in double-figures in four of his six appearances for Paul VI, averaging 15.7 points, 7.0 assists, 3.7 rebounds, 3.0 steals. McDaniel shot 43.5% from the field and made 2.3 treys at a 36.1% clip, although he connected on just 53.3% from the charity stripe.

The four-star point guard is ranked as the 75th prospect in the nation by Rivals,79th by 247Sports Composite, 52nd by 247Sports, and unraked by ESPN, although he is considered a four-star prospect.

McDaniel holds 13 scholarship offers, including Arizona State, UConn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Vanderbilt, VCU, and Wake Forest.

“My decision will definitely come down to taking visits and experiencing the atmosphere,” McDaniel told 247Sports DuShawn London. “I’m a very outgoing guy, so the social aspect is just as important as the basketball aspect. After I take my visits and experience college life, I’ll be able to cut my list down.”

Currently, Michigan is considered the favorite for his services. But here is a look at Arizona State, Michigan, and Penn State.

Arizona State: The Sun Devils will lose former Toledo transfer Marreon Jackson after this season, but they will likely have fellow transfers, Jay Heath, along with DJ Horne. ASU still has three scholarships remaining in 2021, with Bobby Hurley already signing incoming freshmen Demari Williams and Justin Rochelini to go along with junior Luther Muhammed. The Sun Devils do not have any commits for 2022.

"“Coach [Joel] Justus is a great guy. It’s easy to connect with him and I feel like the relationship is going to get better as time goes on. I’ve seen them play before and they’re really guard-oriented. I like how they play. They play a fast-paced game and it reminds me of my high school at Paul VI.”"

Michigan: The Wolverines do not have a commitment from the Class of 2022,  but coach Juwon Howard has brought in Coastal Carolina transfer DeVante Jones while Adrien Nunez and Zeb Jackson could return in 2022. Howard has also signed 4-star point guard Frankie Collins, four-star shooting guard Kobe Bufkin and 3-star guard Isaiah Barnes as part of the 2022 recruiting class.

McDaniel said that he talks to assistant coach Phil Martelli and Howard regularly.

"“I really like the way they develop their point guards. I feel like with coach Juwan having league experience he can give guys insight on what to do because he’s been there. He produces good guards so they’re definitely an option.”"

Penn State: New Nittany Lions head coach Micah Shrewsberry still has a lot of recruiting work to do for the upcoming year with six scholarships left.  PSU won’t have Garner-Webb transfer Jaheam Cornwall, but point guards Sam Sessoms and Dallion Johnson should return, as should Siena transfer Jalen Pickett as well as Myles Dread.   Shrewsbury received his first commitment from 2021 recently in point guard Kanye Clary.

"“That’s a good relationship. We just started building our relationship and I feel like it’s off to a good start. Coach [Mike] Farrelly is recruiting me over there and he’s really just trying to get to know me better since our relationship just started, so he’s just asking me stuff like whats my week like, whats my favorite foods, and stuff like that getting to know me.”“I watched them play a few times and I like the way they play. They play really fast and gritty, they don’t run too many sets, and play really well. I just like what they’re doing over there.”"
