Alabama Basketball: 10 greatest Crimson Tide players since 2010
By Matt Melton
2. Trevor Releford
Career Stats: 14 PPG, 3.1 RPG, 2.9 APG, 2 SPG, 0.1 BPG, 48.4 FG%, 35.9 3P%, 81.4 FT%
If there is an argument for the greatest 4-year player in Alabama history, it’s Releford. Starting in 126 of his 134 games during his time with the Crimson Tide, Releford left Tuscaloosa fourth in program history with 1,873 career points, first in program history with 263 steals, and also ranking Top 10 in other categories including steals per game, games played, assists, and more.
Releford also received numerous accolades during his time with the Crimson Tide including First-Team All-SEC, Second-Team All-SEC, SEC All-Defensive Team, and SEC All-Freshman Team. When looking at the greatest players in Alabama Basketball history, Releford is a name that you 100% have to mention.
1. Collin Sexton
Career Stats: 19.2 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 3.6 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.1 BPG, 44.7 FG%, 33.6 3P%, 77.8 FT%
The highest rated recruit to ever play basketball at Alabama, Sexton is the top player to wear the Crimson and White since 2010. Despite only playing at Alabama for one season, Sexton’s 2017-18 season was special and one of the best in recent memory.
Selected as the SEC Newcomer of the Year, Sexton averaged 19.5 PPG to lead the Crimson Tide while also collecting other honors including First-Team All-SEC and the SEC All-Freshman Team. Sexton also set the new Alabama single season scoring record for a freshman with 632 points, and was the reason for some phenomenal moments including his 40-point 3 vs 5 performance, as well as his game-winner to save Alabama’s season in the SEC Tournament.
Obviously names like Sexton, Releford, Green, and Jones stick out the most, but you could make the argument for multiple players to be considered the best since 2010. As mentioned previously at the start, if Alabama Basketball continues it’s current rise, we could see a few new names join this list in the very near future.
