NCAA Basketball: Alonzo Verge, Tre Mitchell among top available transfers
2. F Marcus Bagley – Arizona State Sun Devils
2020-21 stats: 10.8 ppg and 6.2 rpg
The former top-50 prospect had a rough freshman campaign due to injuries, playing just 12 games last season. When he was on the court though, Bagley showed signs of great promise, scoring 21 points against Houston Baptist and having back-to-back double-doubles against UCLA and USC.
Bagley entered the NBA Draft is the most likely option to stay, as we haven’t heard any teams linked with the former Sun Devil. But if he doesn’t get a 1st round promise and decides to return, look for there to be a ton of suitors immediately.
1. F/C Tre Mitchell – UMass Minutemen
2020-21 stats: 18.8 ppg, 7.2 rpg
Had Mitchell played for a bigger team than the Minutemen in the Atlantic 10, he would be more nationally known. The former top-100 prospect was dominant in his two seasons at UMass, averaging nearly 20 ppg and scoring at least 30 points several times. He’s an outstanding offensive player that can spread the floor and is without a doubt the top player still in the portal.
Mitchell recently announced a top-6 list, with programs such as LSU, Georgia, Texas, and Florida State among the top contenders. He’s recently taken official visits with the Seminoles and Longhorns and could decide in the next week, with the move potentially what makes a team a Final Four threat in 2022.
