NCAA Basketball: Top 10 impact head coaching hires from 2010 offseason
By Joey Loose
Take yourselves back to the year 2010. One of college basketball’s great title games unfolded before our eyes as Duke won their fourth NCAA Basketball national title, holding off a furious postseason run by Butler. This was the season that gave us dynamic performances from All-Americans like Evan Turner and John Wall. One of the Second Team All-Americans was future Duke head coach Jon Scheyer, while it was Jim Boeheim snagging most of the coaching awards.
Though certainly not lacking in excitement, another college basketball season finished up, leaving several programs facing some decisions about the future. Head coaching changes were on the horizon, with a number of schools forced into reviewing their options. Some coaches were forced aside, others retired, and by the end, there were dozens of coaches in new jobs. Schools like Auburn, Iowa, Oregon, and Wake Forest were all hunting for new leadership.
Every program needs to find the right leader; a statement that’s true about struggling high majors and talented low majors and everything in between. The wrong hire can really tarnish the trajectory of a program.
Anyways, our focus today will be on some of the best coaching hires made way back in 2010, with a particular look at the ten best. We cannot look at all of the hires from that year, meaning some pretty intriguing names will be disregarded, but there are still some fantastic hires to consider.
Without further ado, let’s get right into it, looking at these hires from eleven seasons ago.
