Take yourselves back to the year 2011. NCAA basketball’s greatest Cinderella two-part story gave us one of the ugliest national title games, as Connecticut held off a resilient Butler squad to win their third national title. Kemba Walker led the Huskies on that run to the title, but the All-American team involved several other big names, like Jimmer Fredette and Jared Sullinger, with Kawhi Leonard on the Second Team.

Another college basketball came and went, meaning it was time for some changes to start taking place. In addition to the yearly influx of roster changes, coaching changes began to happen at schools all around the country. Whether through firing, retirement, or other kinds of promotion, there were a number of schools hunting for a new leader, with Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Maryland, and NC State among the list.

It’s been said in every one of these articles, but it’s worth rephrasing again: every program needs to nail the head coaching search and hire the best coach. With that in mind, we will specifically look back at 2011. We’re going to run through the ten best hires made that offseason. There were plenty of great coaches inheriting new programs back then; it’s really hard to nail down ten but we’ve done our best.

Anyways, let’s get right into the list of ten, looking back fondly at some of the best hires from ten years ago.
