2021 NBA Draft: Ranking the top-10 players at G-League Elite Camp
4. AJ Lawson
The big athletic 6-6 wing played extremely well in both games, displaying extreme scoring deft as he shot the ball well and demonstrated the ability to play off the ball. He also handled and distributed the ball well. In addition, Lawson rebounded the ball and was active defensively. He has foregone his final eligibility with South Carolina and is a potential second-round draft pick due to his 3-and-D potential.
G-League Elite stats:12.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.5 blocks. He shot 42.1% ( 8-19) 40% from beyond the arc (4-10). and 71.4% (5-7) from the charity stripe.
3. Dawson Garcia
The 6-11, 19-year-old big man really “opened eyes” over the three-day camp after a strong freshman season at Marquette. Garcia had a knack of scoring in the post and on hustle plays, tallying several baskets after rolling to the hoop. He demonstrated excellent footwork, the ability to finish with either hand and the ability to knock down face-up jumpers.
The Minnesota native also boarded well but he struggled with his playmaking and on the defensive end. If Garcia remains in the draft, he is a likely second-round draft selection.
G-League Elite stats:17.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.5 blocked shots. Garcia made 14 of 23 (60.8%) shots including 3 of 9 (33.3% from deep and 3 of 4 (75%) from the free throw line.
2. Aaron Wiggins
The former Maryland Terrapin made plays on both ends of the floor all weekend at the G-League Elite camp. The athletic 6-6 wing shot the ball well overall, particularly off the catch, and decently off the bounce. He also rebounded the ball and was solid defensively. As a result of his performance at the camp, Wiggins may land in the first round because of this work at camp.
G-League Elite stats
: 13.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.0 turnovers. Wiggins was 10 of 17 (58.8%) from the field, 3 of 6 (50%) from the 3-point line, and 3 of 4 (75%) from the charity stripe.
1. Carlik Jones
Jones was really aggressive offensively in both games, showing solid playmaking skills. He demonstrated an excellent first step and finished strong at the basket while also knocking down shots at the other two levels (mid-range and beyond the arc).
The 6-1 point guard also distributed the ball well, whether delivering into the interior or when kicking the ball out, and also went hard after rebounds. The defense was an issue for him overall due to his lack of size but his quickness allows him to pester opposing ball-handlers. Jones is likely a mid-to-early second-round draft pick.
G-League Elite stats: 15.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 turnovers, and 1.0 steals. Jones sank 11 of 23 (47.8%) from the field, 3-5 (60%) from long distance, and 6-7 (85.7%) from the charity stripe.
