NCAA Basketball: Ranking the 10 matchups for 2022 Big 12 vs SEC Challenge
By Andrew Tineo
7. LSU at TCU
Adam Miller vs. Mike Miles
Quite possibly, two of the most exciting freshman guards from a year ago will have a chance to collide in Fort Worth. TCU spent the off-season re-building the roster entirely. With transfers from Emmanuel Miller at Texas A&M and Micah Peavy at Texas Tech, to Shahada Wells from UT-Arlington.
LSU has done just as much as they landed one of the brightest and highest-potential guards in the portal in Miller. LSU finished with the No.12 class in the country, led by yet another five-star in Efton Reid from IMG Academy.
Even with the amount of talent they bring in, the Tigers lose a lot of production. LSU was one of the best offenses in the SEC last year and lose a big part of that in Cameron Thomas to the NBA. Trendon Watford also declared for the NBA and Javonte Smart participated at the Elite Camp in Chicago just a few days ago.
On paper, LSU is clearly the more talented team. The Tigers have a massive recruit and a Top three player from the portal. However, this Horned Frogs team might be the deepest team Horned Frog fans have seen in the Jamie Dixon era.
Although losing Kevin Samuel was big, the Horned Frogs were busy in the portal and bring back quite a few key pieces from a year ago.
Chuck O’Bannon and PJ Fuller return, to become solid guard pieces off the bench. The question will be whether this offense takes a big stride, with lackluster three-point shooting and rebounding a season ago.
This game has the potential to be a big swing game. LSU could easily run away, with overall talent and a Will Wade wants to score points in a hurry. However, being in Fort Worth, TCU has managed massive upset wins, including wins over Baylor and Kansas over the past four seasons in Fort Worth.
