NCAA Basketball rewind: Most impactful coaching hires after 2013 season

Take yourselves back to the year 2013. Though the title would later be vacated, Louisville brought home the NCAA Basketball national championship, giving Rick Pitino a second title with a different program. They survived a title game fight from Michigan and Trey Burke, the national player of the year. Some of that year’s stars also included Victor Oladipo, Kelly Olynyk, and Mason Plumlee. The impressive turnaround at Miami handed Jim Larranaga a number of coaching awards.
As per usual, the end of another NCAA basketball season meant it was time for some coaching changes around the country. The decision to make a change at the top of a basketball program is never easy, but several changes were on the horizon in 2013. Whether through firing or other means, a number of teams were looking for new leaders, with Minnesota, Texas Tech, UCLA, and USC among the headliners.
Hiring the right choice is vital for any program, no matter what situation that basketball team finds themselves in. As the dust began to settle back in 2013, several of these programs would find out how their choices affected the program, both positively and negatively. With that in mind, we’re going to take a deep dive into the best hires from that offseason, limiting our attention to the ten very best. The coaching carousel certainly spun out some intriguing hires, even some beyond our following list.
