Maryland Basketball: Terps land another solid transfer In Pavlo Dziuba
By Sean Cole
Maryland Basketball and Head Coach Mark Turgeon announce the signing of the fourth transfer that will be joining the Terps for the 2021-2022 season.
The Terps announce the signing of Pavlo Dziuba (pah-vlo zee-u-buh) Sophomore transfer from Arizona State.
The 6-8 225 pound forward hails from Kirichkova, Ukraine, and is joining the Terps via the transfer portal where he played at Arizona State last season. If you are a Maryland fan and are wondering didn’t the Terps have a player from Ukraine before, the answer would be yes, indeed they did. Does the name Alex Len ring a bell! Len played two seasons for the Terps before turning pro and getting selected as the fifth overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft by the Phoenix Suns. So, with that said, the Terp’s are hoping for success.
A four-star recruit out of high school, Dziuba was one of the youngest players in D-1 last season as he was playing in his freshmen season at the age of only 16 years old. As a freshman at Arizona State, he appeared in a total of eight games in a reserve role, which included a career-high 10 minutes against UCLA on Jan. 7. So, Dziuba comes to the Terps with fours eligibility remaining.
Upon announcing the signing ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla was quoted as saying “Pavlo was one of the best 16-year-olds in Europe as evidenced by being part of Barcelona’s famous club program. He will join the Terps as an 18-year-old with size, skill, strength, and athleticism. He has a very bright college basketball future.”
All signs point to a great pick-up for the Terp’s, as Dziuba definitely has alot of potential and tons of upside and he will only get better as he begins his journey in College Park. I have a feeling Mr. Manning is real happy right now.
Dziuba joins an impressive list of transfers that will be joining him in College Park this upcoming season. He joins Qudus Wahab (Georgetown), Fatts Russell (Rhode Island), and Ian Martinez (Utah) as new members of the Terps.
