NCAA Basketball: 8 teams that should target Cincinnati transfer Keith Williams
Virginia Cavaliers
The Cavaliers recently lost starting wing Trey Murphy to the NBA Draft, joining former top-50 guard Jabri Abdur-Rahim and Tomas Woldetensae as offseason departures in the backcourt. The pickup of Indiana transfer Armaan Franklin helps things out, shooting 40% from three-point range last season.
With Kihei Clark as the starting point guard and Franklin at the two-spot, Williams slotted at small forward gives Virginia enough offense to avoid major droughts in a given game. And he’s good enough defensively to fit into head coach Tony Bennett’s system as well. The style of play may not be the ideal choice but since Williams previously played for Mick Cronin, it won’t be that much of a major change.
Virginia Tech Hokies
Once star forward Keve Aluma came back from the NBA Draft process, the Hokies were supposed to be set for next season. That changed with Tyrece Radford entering the transfer portal, a 6’2 guard/wing that was a double-digit contributor in the past two seasons. The wing spot is not left open unless the team is comfortable with Storm Muprhy and Hunter Catoor being the starting backcourt next season.
To make sure Virginia Tech has depth and size in the backcourt, they should consider adding Williams, who would fill the hole that Radford left. Maybe not when it comes to rebounding but he’s a better pure scorer and just as good an individual defender. The Hokies have benefitted from transfers in the past so why not add one more that can make a difference?
