NCAA Basketball: 8 teams that should target Virginia Tech transfer Tyrece Radford
Providence Friars
The Friars lost star guard David Duke this offseason but did land a pair of perimeter transfers in Justin Minaya and Aljami Durham. Both of them are more offensive-oriented and aren’t great rebounders. Radford would be a defensive upgrade over those transfer pickups and also an offensive upgrade over Noah Horchler at the forward position.
With big man and leading scorer Nate Watson back, Providence doesn’t need too much more to get back to being at least on the bubble. With the transfers they currently have, Radford would be the missing piece that puts it all together to make this a potentially dangerous team to go up against.
West Virginia Mountaineers
With leading scorer Miles McBride gone, there’s now a ton of pressure on returning guards Sean McNeil and Taj Sherman to provide the majority of the scoring production. And Derek Culver has already been gone, leaving transfers Dimon Carrigan and Pauly Paulicap in the frontcourt. Neither are elite offensive players and may even struggle on the boards in Big 12 play.
Radford and head coach Bob Huggins would be a personal match made in heaven and he would be a big asset on both ends for the Mountaineers. He can play the wing or the undersized four-spot, depending on how the newcomers inside work out. If they could find a way to add the transfer from the next state over, West Virginia would be a tournament team without question.
