NCAA Basketball: 8 teams that should target Alabama transfer Jaden Shackelford
Arizona Wildcats
The backcourt situation for the Wildcats is a bit of a question mark, as backup point guard Kerr Kriisa, Utah transfer Pelle Larsson, and Georgia transfer Justin Kier make up the current rotation. None of them are at the proven level of a Shackelford, who could be the top offensive option on the perimeter for the Wildcats.
And with Bennedict Mathurin and Ąžuolas Tubelis around, this would be one of the better trios in the Pac-12 next season. He’d be able to play out west and not have to worry about playing second-fiddle to anyone else in the backcourt. He took a chance on Nate Oats when he came over from Buffalo, why not also take a chance with former Gonzaga assistant Tommy Lloyd?
Baylor Bears
The Bears took Arizona’s best player this offseason in James Akinjo, set to be their starting point guard for next season. After winning the national championship, Baylor is replacing all three starting guards, including Jared Butler, Davion Mitchell, and MaCio Teague. Of the three, Shackelford’s games compare best to Teague, and in Baylor’s offense can play at either the two or three-spot.
With Akinjo, LJ Cryer, Adam Flagler, and five-star freshman guard Kendall Brown, the Bears certainly aren’t desperate for more backcourt help for next season. But coming off winning a national title, the program is at its highest PR-wise. So why not use it to your advantage with one of the top available transfers that would fit so well with your team?
